On Earth Day, Let's Talk About Sustainability

Did you know that forests are collectively the second biggest storehouse of carbon after oceans, absorbing huge amounts of greenhouse gases?

Forests also enhance biodiversity, provide buffers from natural disasters, protect our waterways, and improve soil nutrition.

When we founded Icon By Design – an Australian-owned family business – we took a stand to shun a disposable way of living, choosing instead to be guided by the principles of sustainability. This is why we source the solid oak and walnut we use in our products from forests that embody sustainable principles. This means the wood is sustainably harvested, has monitored replanting processes, and protects the land rights of indigenous peoples.

Why do we use solid wood in the first place?

Glad you asked. Solid wood is inherently hard wearing and durable. The lifespan of an item crafted from solid wood is 10-15 times longer than that of a veneered wood item, which makes it more cost effective and sustainable in the long run. When you choose to buy our solid wood items, you get furniture that’s designed for life. We don’t follow trends that change every season, but choose designs that will endure for years to come.  We design beautiful furniture for beautiful spaces.

We say no to mass-produced, disposable fast furniture and the quality of our solid wood furniture speaks for itself. Every knot in the wood tells a story; every piece is designed to convey its strength; every item speaks of integrity, timeless design and refined elegance.

But don’t take our word for it – we were recently featured in an article by Broadsheet which commended Icon By Design Australia as a leader in the sustainable furniture business sector.
