Why interior design? What are you passionate about?

For me, interior design is an art form that goes beyond aesthetics. It is about crafting spaces that evoke emotions, inspire creativity, and cater to the unique needs of individuals. I strive to create harmonious environments that reflect the personal style of my clients as well as promote comfort and functionality. I believe that a well-designed space can greatly impact one's quality of life. Through attention to detail, thoughtful selection of materials, and an innate understanding of how colour influences moods, I aim to transform spaces into extraordinary places that people can truly call their own.

Do you have any tips for someone wanting to create a minimalist, Scandinavian-inspired home?

Here are some tips for creating a minimalist, Scandinavian-inspired home. First, focus on clean lines and simplicity in your furniture and decor choices. Opt for a neutral colour palette with pops of muted tones and natural materials like wood and leather. Maximise natural light by keeping window treatments minimal. Declutter your space and embrace the "less is more" philosophy. Incorporate functional storage solutions to maintain a tidy environment. Use minimalistic artwork and accent pieces to add personality without overwhelming the space. Finally, bring nature indoors with potted plants and natural textures.

What sort of colour palette are you drawn to?

My favourite colour palette consists of white, beige, and green. This combination creates a serene and calming atmosphere. The crispness of white evokes a sense of purity and cleanliness, while the warmth of beige adds a touch of subtle elegance. The inclusion of green brings in a natural element, reminiscent of lush gardens and tranquil landscapes. Together, these colours create a soothing ambience. Whether it's the simplicity of a Scandinavian-inspired design or the tranquillity of a nature-inspired space, this colour palette is inviting and serene.

What is your favourite style?

My favourite style is Scandinavian. I am drawn to its minimalistic approach, simplicity, and understated elegance. Scandinavian design focuses on clean lines, functional spaces, and a harmonious balance of form and function. The use of light colours, such as whites and neutrals, creates an airy and bright atmosphere. The emphasis on natural materials such as wood and leather adds warmth and texture. The overall aesthetic is uncluttered, allowing for a sense of calm and serenity. Scandinavian style embodies a timeless elegance that effortlessly combines functionality with aesthetics, making it my personal favourite.

What interior design trends have you noticed in the last 12 months and which ones will endure?

Over the past 12 months, several interior design trends have gained traction. One notable trend is the rise of earthy and natural colour palettes, with warm neutrals, muted tones, and organic shades becoming popular choices. Another prevalent trend is the incorporation of sustainable materials and eco-friendly practices, reflecting a growing emphasis on environmental consciousness. Additionally, the enduring trend of mid-century and Scandinavian style continues to captivate with its timeless appeal, clean lines, and functional design. The blend of a Scandinavian aesthetic with modern elements offers a harmonious balance of simplicity and elegance. These trends are likely to endure as they resonate with our desire for a calming, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing environment.

What is your favourite Icon By Design project and why?

My favourite project was a house in the Central Coast. It caught my attention due to its captivating design and stunning surroundings. With glass doors enveloping the property, the house seamlessly connected to  the breathtaking forest all around it. The colour palette and the furniture created a harmonious blend with nature. The skillful craftsmanship and attention to detail in the solid wood furniture from Icon By Design was highlighted in this beautiful home. This unique combination of architecture, style, and the natural environment made the Central Coast house my favourite Icon By Design project.
