A place for everything and everything in its place – that’s Cassandra Michelin’s family motto. Of course, it’s easier said than done when you’ve got four young kids to wrangle and a blog to manage.
But Cass does it in style in a beautiful new abode she calls home on NSW’s South Coast. The word “home” has taken on a new meaning for Cass and her family ever since a fire burnt down their previous house last year. Now, after the rebuild, home is more than its four walls; home is about togetherness. Cass aimed for a minimalist living style, selecting solid timber furniture from Icon By Design that’s timeless, sustainable and only gets better with age.
Mornings start at the crack of dawn (Sleep-ins? What sleep-ins?!) and start with breakfast at the kitchen counter. The kids clamber onto their Jensen bar stools – yes, each child has a designated spot – ready to tuck into brekkie. How about some gluten-free buckwheat pancakes?
These Jensen bar stools do overtime when neighbours pop by for a casual coffee catch-up and when the kids do their homework that Cass oversees while she cooks in the kitchen.
Family mealtimes are a raucous affair – tucking into wholesome food, giggling and bickering, sharing anecdotes about their day, as they sit down together at the Axel table. With its strong, sturdy frame and timeless style, this statement piece is just what this busy family needs.
The day comes to a close as the kids get ready for story time, dressed in their pyjamas and snuggled together on their parents’ Anya bed before they drift off to sleep.
Weekends see the family make the most of the great outdoors, collecting shells and driftwood and from their local beach. Their “treasures” take pride of place on their new Svend sideboard that’s also great for keeping clutter at bay – we’re looking at you, Lego blocks!
